HISD Families,
Like you, we are shocked and deeply saddened by the news of the shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas on Tuesday. We share in the heartbreak we are all feeling for the families who have lost a loved one due to this senseless act of violence.
School should and must be a place where students feel completely safe and secure. As an added precaution, we are working with our local law enforcement officials to have an increased police presence in and around our buildings for the rest of the week.
We know that children and teens will process this news in different ways. Counselors are available at each of our school buildings to assist students who may need some extra support. We strongly encourage any students to stop by the counseling office at any time.
Please join us in keeping the students, staff, and families of the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District in our thoughts and prayers at this time.
Respectfully,
Dr. Thurston B. Lamb, Jr.
Superintendent
Henderson ISD

The most positive impact you can have on a child is building a sincere relationship with him or her. It doesn't take long and you don't have to be an expert at anything. All you need is a heart for kids and a commitment to spend time with them. There are volunteer mentoring opportunities on every campus at HISD and applying is easy. Upcoming Events for Wylie Elementary School.

While rain is causing some flooding and power outages in portions of Rusk County, all HISD campuses are open. We know some staff and students live in or must drive through the areas impacted by last night’s storms and encourage all to be cautious when traveling this morning.

HISD is closely monitoring the developing weather across our area. We currently do not anticipate any major impact for our schools. Should the situation change, we will notify parents and staff. Please stay safe this evening.

UIL Awards Ceremony is Friday, March 11, 2022. Parents are welcome to attend the awards ceremony as we acknowledge and celebrate the hard work of our UIL students.

HISD will conduct two emergency drills during the week of March 7 - 11. A "lockdown" drill will be conducted at every campus along with an off-site "evacuation" drill at Northside Intermediate School. Please visit http://HendersonISD.org/drill for more information.

Wylie Elementary school is launching the WATCH D.O.G.S program this spring. WATCH D.O.G.S. are fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other father-figures who volunteer for at least one day each year. If you are interested in volunteering, please complete the volunteer form linked below. If you have any questions, please contact the school at (903) 655-5200. https://forms.gle/M5Kp9KHGSL3ovgL68

WEATHER CLOSURE: All campuses of HISD will be closed Friday (Feb. 4th) due to the threat of icy road conditions early tomorrow morning. Classes will resume on Monday (Feb 7th). The closure will impact many of our athletic and extracurricular activities scheduled this weekend. Please watch for information directly from your students’ activity sponsors (coaches, bands directors, teachers, etc.) through Remind. We will try to post all schedule updates at https://HendersonISD.org/weather as well.
By 12:30 p.m, Thursday, temperatures had already dropped below freezing in a few portions of the district and we expect that to continue overnight. While temperatures may climb above freezing tomorrow afternoon, we do not yet know if it will be enough to allow for safe travel Friday afternoon or evening. We are in contact with forecasters and local emergency management authorities to best assess the current situation. HISD’s priority remains keeping our students and staff safe and will cancel or postpone activities if travel is potentially dangerous. Watch our website (HendersonISD.org/weather) for updates.
Please stay safe and warm during this wintery weather.
